Pastor Vernon believes that we must continue to move forward, responsibly and courageously, to realize great results for all students in DPS. "Business as usual won't get us there. We have to boldly move forward together for the sake of all children. We have no time to stall; our children's futures are dependent on us doing the right things today."
GREAT CHOICE - Every school in DPS must be a high quality choice for students to learn, teachers to work, and parents and community members to volunteer in.

This will require us to create opportunities for new and innovative types of schools, increase autonomy where appropriate, and to continue to work aggressively to resource and rebuild existing schools to be great. We cannot be satisfied until all of our schools are a GREAT choice!

GREAT CULTURE - Every school in DPS must have high quality teachers and principals that believe that all students can learn and be successful. Every DPS school must have students and parents who believe the same and contribute to healthy school culture.

This will require us to increase our professional development of existing staff, recruitment of highly prepared and culturally competent new teachers, staff, and principals, better retention efforts to keep our best, and continued accountability for results. We must also work with our partners to develop and empower more student and parent leaders who are critical to school culture transformation.

GREAT COMMUNITY - Every school in DPS must have an informed and engaged community to develop and sustain their success.

This requires us to reach out in a proactive and meaningful way so that students, parents, community members, teachers, business leaders, and all other stakeholders have a voice at the table and have a clear understanding of their needed roles, so that together we can achieve the great results that we are capable of.

GREAT RESULTS - Every school in DPS must produce great results for all children. We must aspire to being a district that graduates 100% of our students ready for college without remediation or ready to be successful in careers.

This requires us to work together from the start. We must ensure that from ECE through graduation we are focused on great results for all children.
"I believe that DPS has the potential to achieve greatness in all of our schools; it is something that we have to reach for and work toward everyday," shares Pastor Vernon. "I visited a majority of the schools in District 4 last year and in all of them I saw great potential. In talking with principals, teachers, students, parents, and from time spent in classrooms I saw what we can become; we can become great."

Making all schools in DPS GREAT is what Pastor Vernon will be focused on as he serves on the DPS board. It's time to be GREAT! Together we can..Together we will!
